Balmain's new campaign features virtual modelsBalmain recently announced that their new campaign features virtual models. The brand actually designed digital models, by working with the software company CLO Virtual Fashion. The company has its 3D designers input data from each item of clothing, into a program and tailor the dresses to each model’s measurements, after measuring the clothes for weight, flexibility, drape and stitching patterns. The new virtual “Balmain Army” consists of 3 “models”, Shudu, Margot and Zhi. Shudu even has an Instagram account with over 100k followers, after Fenty Beauty reposted one of her photos. She was created by visual artist, Cameron-James Wilson. The reveal of her not actually being real, received mixed reactions. While some users found it artistic, and smart, some others thought it was “just not right”, since virtual models can’t compare to real life models. According to Balmain’s statement about the models: “Anyone and everyone is always welcome to join Balmain army’s growing ranks – they need only share our bold spirit of adventure as our new virtual icons, Margot, Shudu and Zhi who mirror the beauty, the rock style and the confident power.” The 3 virtual models, are exclusive to Balmain and were made in a collaboration between Rousteing and CGI artists. What do you think about this move? Are you a fan of the idea?

Olivier Rousteing designed an impressive and limited-edition capsule for the lingerie brand. They came up with the punk theme, which is something really new for the designer.  Luckily, he created a glamorous collection with recognisable elements, heavy embellishments and a lot of studs, mesh, plaids, safety pins. The most expensive piece is the bejeweled Swarovski Long Line Bra that costs $248. Furthermore, there is a matching pair of panties, also decorated with Swarovski crystals that are available for $48. Balmain x Victoria’s Secret capsule will be available both online and in-stores. As we’re getting closer to the release date, more photos and information about the collection is coming out, so we thought we should remind you about it. The capsule collection will include 12 shades of matte lipstick by Color Riche and the exclusive collaboration with Balmain. The L’Oréal Paris x Balmain collection, will be called Tribe Coutoure, and will come in three couture packs: Rock, Couture and Glamazone, designed to match every complexion. The motto of the collection is: “No matter your origin, No matter your tribe. Come together, be seen, be heard. United, we are invincible. Because we are all worth it”. It’s the first time Balmain’s creative director, Olivier Rousteing, designs a collection for the beauty industry, after his very successful collaboration with H&M, and the release of his first children’s line, and it’s expected to be an absolute hit. The first colors and their names have already been revealed through the brands’ social media, but the full makeup collection will be launched on September 1st, during Paris Fashion Week and will be available in all Balmain stores.

The series of black & white photos were all shot in the streets of Paris, the Palais Royal, Le Pantheon, and in Balmain’s flagship store. The members of the Balmain Army we see in the fall campaign are: Natasha Poly, Lara Stone, Presley Gerber, Ton Heukels, Jon Kortagarena, Marlon Teixeira, Grace Bol, Aleyna Fitzgerald, Alexina Graham, and Valery Kaufman. The campaign has a very sensual character, with some of the models being photographed naked in front of such landmarks.
